Recently I saw a student type “books about [Tenniel]” (name of artist changed to protect the identity of this ill-equipped researcher) into the Google search book in order to find books in our own Madhawk library. We have a handy online catalog for that. It’s pretty simple to use (search by title, author, series, keyword or subject), and it will show if books are here and if they are available for checkout. The catalog will also guide you to e-books and videos free to read and view. Click on the Read tab when you’re done here at the blog and choose “YOUR library catalog” to give it a go.
I’m Ms. Fultz your new librarian, and I hope you like and UTILIZE your new Madhawk Library (aka Madison Jr. Sr. High Media Center) website. The plan is to blog about a book or an information source every week. Please add to the conversation.
This week’s book is actually a three-book series: Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Days of Blood and Starlight, and Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor (who has amazing pink hair). In a bookstore the series would be shelved, most likely, in the Supernatural Romance section. This category can make some readers cringe (I’m with you, anti-Twilight folks), but THIS series is an amazing mix of mythology and wit and magic. The love story involves a hot angel (literally -- he has flaming wings) and a brilliant chimera (with equally brilliant sapphire hair). It’s epic. Too epic for a brief introductory blog post, but the gist is that generations of warring worlds may come to peace, or at least to ceasefire, thanks to two people who saw souls rather than skin (and horns and wings).
